Photoshop is Not Just for Photographers
Photoshop isn’t limited to just pictures. You can use the program to edit and combine any kind of content for almost any reason.
The only prerequisite is that you have some type of photo editing software installed.
In this guide, we’ll focus on photo editing, but anyone is welcome to follow along.
How to Use Photoshop
Follow these steps to start using Photoshop on a Mac:
Download and install Photoshop from the Mac App Store.
Run the program from the finder, Desktop, or Applications folder.

Open a local image file from the Finder by double-clicking it. Alternatively, you can click the Open button in Photoshop, which will load the file from a cloud storage location.
When you open a file, the screen will look like this:
Select the image on the screen by clicking on it. This will open the image in the Tools menu:
Click the Edit menu > Edit in Photoshop.
A small window will open with the image. The image is now open in Photoshop:
Click the Hand tool at the bottom left corner of the window to bring up the Hand tool.
Click and drag the image around to adjust the position of the photo. The Hand tool changes to grips, which will let you move the image in one direction or another, scale it, and rotate it:
Click and drag the ruler box at the top of the window to zoom the image in and out. To zoom in, drag the box, or click and hold the mouse button down to zoom out.
If you drag the ruler box left, it will grab everything on the right side of the canvas, and vice versa.
Click and drag the ruler box at the bottom of the window to zoom the image in and out. You can also click and drag the right side of the canvas to zoom in and out:
Click and drag the ruler box to rotate the image. When you drag the box down, it will grab the top side of the canvas, and will rotate the image in a clockwise direction. Conversely, click and drag the box up to rotate the image in a counter-clockwise direction:
Click and drag the ruler box to scale the image in either direction. The image will zoom in or out, depending on where you drag the box:

Step 1: Open Photoshop
Before you start, open Photoshop.

Step 2: Import a Photo to Your Photoshop Document
To start, go to File > Open.

Alternatively, to create a document from scratch and import an image later, go to File > New and select Blank Document. Then click on Browse to select the image.
Step 3: Select the Import Your Photo Function
Go to Select, and set the brightness value of the image to 100%. This will help to get a better quality image and help it to be more visible.
Step 4: Sharpen the Image
Go to Select > Adjustments > Sharpen and set the amount to +16.
(You can also use the Amount slider to adjust the amount of sharpening you want).
Step 5: Invert Your Image
Go to Select > Adjustments > Invert and select the checkmark for the Invert Selection option.
This is going to turn all the colors inside the image white. We don’t want this, so invert it.
Step 6: Change the Document Size to Fit Your Need
Go to Edit > Canvas Size.
Select the Vertical Size option if you want to have a landscape format and set it to the size you want.
Go to the Horizontal Size option and set it to the size you want.
Step 7: Crop the Image
Go to Image > Canvas Size and draw a selection box around the area you want to keep.
